Another Destination – The Ancient Rome

I was looking for some good travel destinations and landed up to the Ancient Rome. I am fond of traveling and visiting new places, weather, food, different cultures and meeting new people.

This place, Ancient Rome is located along the Mediterranean Sea and became one of the largest empires in the ancient world. It’s so exciting to visit a place near the sea. I have also heard about some of the roads of Rome, they are made of rocks and they look so unique. Now I will add this place to my travel destination list. Norway

One of my good friend just came from his two weeks summer vacation to Scandinavian countries. He liked Norway the most, perfect weather and nice place. I wonder why so many people love this country. It is also one of the best country for living, very good education, one of the wealthiest countries in the world, the largest capital reserve per capita of any nation, solid currency, the most peaceful country and it is a beautiful country. The 21st Century's Longest Eclipse

I am so lucky to witness the longest solar eclipse in the 21st century. There is no such a combination of words that I can say to express the experience. Even though from Chandigarh, the city where I stay now in India, you can only see the partial eclipse, but it was great. The moon covered 3/4 part of the sun, and it just amazing to see all these things.

Istanbul is one of the biggest cities in the world. It used to be the political capital of the country, but now still plays as the economic and cultural center of Turkey. Beside Istanbul, this city had few names before; Byzantium and Constantinople are the most famous ones I guess. Istanbul is the only metropolitan city in the world that situated on two continents; Asia and Europe. This city is rich in history, from the Roman Empire to the Ottoman Empire. Historic areas in Istanbul is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Lists.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

This city is amazing. This is my favorite city in the whole Latin America. Buenos Aires' tourism has been growing since the past 6-7 years. Now it's become favorite in Latin America. Bhutan

When I was in Nepal, I was thinking to visit Bhutan. It is common for people to do Tibet-Nepal-Bhutan trip or otherwise. I wish I had more time and money than I would have gone to Bhutan as well.

From the pictures on this ppt, it looks really nice. Not only the view and the scenery, but also the cultures. Bhutan is a poor country, but the land is very fertile and population is small. So, I guess you wont see beggars around. It takes at least 30 days also to get the visa, so if you're planning to go to Bhutan any soon, make sure you apply your visa at least 30 days before your arrival.

Pokhara, Nepal

Pokhara is the second most favorite tourist destination in Nepal. It's about 7 hours by bus from Kathmandu. The third biggest city in Nepal after Kathmandu and Biratnagar. We spend there for four days, relaxing and chilling. My favorite spot is the Pewa Lake, and Sarangkot, the view point of the Pokhara Valley. Here are some pictures, you might want to see them. The weather was not that good though, cloudy and it was raining. We missed some good views that we planned to see in Pokhara.

Katmandu and Katmandu Valley

We spent 4 days in Katmandu. I like the city eventhough everyone is trying to rip you off for all kind of shopping you do there =). We stayed in Thamel, very crowded with tourists and budget hotels and restaurants. Katmandu apparently is a small city, you can walk anywhere. We visited some stupas, temple and durbar squares (traditional city) around the city. We went also to Bhaktapur to see its World Heritage Durbar Square. And also we visited Nagarkot, a calm cool hill station, like an hour from Katmandu. I have some pictures here, might you want to have a look =)

Varanasi, India

Finally, I went there, Varanasi. One of the cities that I really want to visit in the world. I heard a lot about this city since a while. It is one of the oldest city in the world, and one of the holiest city in India.

The city is also called Benaras, or Benares. Lots of story behind, and mentioned sometimes in the epic story of Hinduism; the Mahabarata. As one of the holiest vcity in India, people come here to take bath in the Ganga river to clean themselves from all the sins, and also this is the place when they burn the dead body and throw the ash to the river.

Mark Twain, an American writer, even describes Varanasi as a city that older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all of them put together.

Everyone knows Las Vegas. Las Vegas has millions of story. You could be a millionaire in one night, and you can be totally broke also in the same night. You could be married with someone or you could be divorced with your spouse, in one night. Anything could happen in Las Vegas, the biggest city in Nevada. The Republic of Maldives

We played the country name last night. So, we started with one country and then somebody next to you had to mention a country which the name should be started with the last letter of the previous country mentioned. For example, we started with India, then I said Afghanistan, and the guy next to me said Nigeria and so on. Somebody said Maldives on the game then I started to think about this country. Well, I know this country before, I know where it is, but nothing more than that. So, I did some research today and found that this country is just like paradise. You need to see Male, the capital, and tell me if you don't feel interested to visit this place.

Maldive Islands is the smallest country in Asia, both as population and area. If Indonesia plays as the largest Muslim nation in the world, Maldives is the smallest. Enjoy the rest of the pictures on this slide, for your perfect holiday with typical Maldivian beach, tall palm tress and it's blue lagoon. This place is paradise!

Tharon Smith traveled from China to Lhasa - Tibet, climbed the top of the planet earth; Everest, 20 days trekking in the Himalayas, visited Nepal and experienced India. This is really interesting, at least for me, as I was planning to do the same, but in the other way, from India to China through Nepal and Tibet. This site is amazing. I just checked it today and amazed by the adventure of Granger Family to travel to thirty-eight countries in four and a half years by sailing. And Sailing Faith: The Long Way Home is a book written by Gregg A Granger where he shares his remarkable experiences with his wife and three children cruising oceans to visit different people with different culture in different places. This is seriously interesting. Take a look of the website and the blog.

Saint Petersburg, Russia!

It was the capital of the Russian Empire for more than 200 years, from the beginning of 18th century until the early 20th century, I guess. The city is one of the biggest city in Europe, with more than 4 million people, and really beautiful. Don't forget to bring your winter clothes and your thick-warm jackets, it looks really cold!

Carnivals Around The World

I had a conversation last night with my Brazilian best friends, Piero. We talked about the famous Brazilian Carnivals. They have so many, and considered as the best in the world. Rio Carnival, is the biggest and one of the best show of the earth. Combination of samba, street parade, music and dances for sure.

Then, we ended up talking more carnivals around the world. We just realized that Europe and Latin America have so many world-class carnivals. Mostly every country in these continents has at least one. The famous one from Asia probably only the carnival in Goa and Kerala, India.

Beside Brazilian Carnivals that are also considered as the longest, we do have some others that also famous and unique. Carnivals of Venice and the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival. The Venice one is really nice, it's about people wearing mask and dressed up with a fantastic costume. While the Trinidad and Tobago Carnivals has always been really happening with music and dances.

Spain: Madrid and Sevilla

One of my friend just came back from Madrid for a research project. She said it was wonderful. Currently I'm thinking to take another internship program in Spain next year. Have no preference in what city though, but both Madrid and Seville are seems nice. I want to learn (again) how to speak Spanish. I learned it before, but i quit, and already forget everything. I guess all the city in Spain are pretty nice and it's pretty cheap out there, compare to another country in Europe. Hope I really can make it to have an internship in Spain next year, then i will have a chance to visit all those nice places and beautiful cities in Spain.

Where to Stay?

People have preference where to stay while they are traveling. I prefer to stay in a budget hotel or in a guess house or in a country home. I found a really neat and clean cheap hotels before, and they even cleaner than a stars hotel. So, budget hotels are not always bad. Staying in a country home has been a good experience for me as well, the atmosphere is always nice, warm, friendly and hommy.

This is the typical hotel that I like. It's in Peru, they call it a garden hotel.

One of my favorite tourist objects is Buildings and Monuments. I can just stare at an amazing building for a while. Especially old and classic building with lots of history behind. It could be forts, palaces, bridges, gates, or something else.

I have two friends who speaks Portuguese, but none of them are from Portugal! So, there must be something special about Portugal that makes people want to learn how to speak Portuguese. Then, I did some browsing, and today, i found this presentation about how nice Portugal is.

I've been dreaming to go to Peru after i saw a TV show about Machu Picchu, a pre-Columbian Inca site located 2,400 meters above sea level.
